Tsujita LA is famous for their Tsukemen Ramen, which is a traditional Japanese ramen dish involving dipping cold noodles into a warm, thick broth. Located in West LA, Tsujita LA opens every day at 11:00am, and if you’re not willing to get there right at 11, be prepared for a wait.
Tsujita LA is located in a small restaurant on the corner of Sawtelle and Mississippi. Not to be confused with Tsujita LA Annex or Killer Noodle Tsujita, both of which are a little farther north on Sawtelle and all owned by the same people. Tsujita LA is the original location, and each location has a slightly different menu with slightly different specialties.
Parking in West LA is always a bit of a struggle, I’d recommend using the free street parking in the neighborhood behind Tsujita LA and walking. I ended up eating at the bar inside the restaurant. It was fun to see the chef’s working in the kitchen while I ate!
Tsukemen is meant to be enjoyed in 3 stages. First, begin by dipping the noodles into the concentrated pork broth until you’ve finished about 1/3 of the noodles. Second, squeeze your lime wedge over the remaining noodles and continue to dip them into the broth. Finally, once you’ve completed the noodles, you can finish your broth by pouring in some additional Soup Wari. The noodle dish is designed to having a changing flavor profile throughout the meal.
It may sound complicated at first, but it is entirely worth it! The noodles are thick and chewy, the broth is flavorful and rich, and once you add the lime, it becomes bright and lovely! Honestly, ramen has always been my least favorite noodle, I’m typically more of an udon girl, but Tsujita LA has made me a convert. Tsujita LA is my new favorite noodle place in Los Angeles!
