One of the most famous sushi chains in Los Angeles is Sugarfish, and for good reason. Sugarfish is dedicated to serving only the highest quality of fish. They reject the “American” style of sushi with extravagant rolls and instead honor the traditional Japanese way of serving sushi, using simple, high quality ingredients.

Sugarfish is most known for its “Trust Me” menu, which is a set menu decided by the chef. There are three iterations; “Trust Me,” “Trust Me Lite,” and “Nozawa Trust Me,” which is named after the founding chef of Sugarfish.

There are 12 locations throughout Los Angeles.

I ordered the “Trust Me Lite” when I went for lunch. It was enough food for me to feel satisfied, but if I was going to Sugarfish for dinner I’d probably go with the traditional “Trust Me” or the “Nozawa Trust Me” if I was feeling like splurging. Even having gone with the “Trust Me Lite,” the meal was not inexpensive.

The meal came with edamame, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sushi, salmon sushi, shrimp sushi, and a toro hand roll. Everything was superb! The fish all tasted very fresh and easy to bite into and each dish was better than the last. My favorites were the toro hand roll and the salmon sushi.

The sushi is phenomenal, but I will say, they are a bit snooty. The menu lists a few different “rules” you are supposed to follow and it’s clear that they think their sushi is very high class. I love going to Sugarfish for a special treat, but there are plenty of sushi places in Los Angeles that are less expensive and more casual. Having said that, it is always a treat to eat at Sugarfish. You can tell that they care deeply about the quality of food they serve you, which makes for a really delicious meal.
