Rams Game at the L.A. Coliseum

It’s football season, and Los Angeles now has not one, but two football teams to root for! I’ll be talking a little bit about both teams and the experience of seeing a game at both stadiums, but I’m going to start with the Rams.

The Los Angeles Coliseum

The Rams came back to L.A. in 2016 and have been playing the Los Angeles Coliseum for the past two seasons (where USC football plays). The Coliseum should be comfortable to the Rams because they played there from 1946-1979.

The Los Angeles Coliseum

Built in 1921, the Coliseum now seats 93,607 people making it the largest football stadium in the Pac-12 Conference and the NFL. It was originally built with a capacity of only 75,144 people, but in 1932 Los Angeles hosted the Olympics so they expanded the stadium upwards. Being in the stadium, it definitely feels that way. I went to the season opener in 2016, so the stadium was packed!

Metro Station

The Coliseum is located in South Central L.A., so parking is a bit crazy. I actually parked at the metro stop in Universal Studios and took the red line south to the 7th St. station. Then I transferred to the Expo Line west and exited Expo Park/USC station to the Coliseum. The Metro was very crowded, but everyone was all decked out in Rams gear, so it was a fun experience. Getting from Universal City to the Coliseum took about an hour so make sure to budget enough time for that.

On the Metro

Just some things to be aware of: there is absolutely no shade whatsoever on the seating at the Coliseum, so be prepared for a hot game. Also, a sold-out game is going to feel very crowded when walking around. The Coliseum has narrow walkways and food vendors and apparel stores take up a large portion of that. Especially during halftime, there were times where I wasn’t moving at all because there were so many people in the walkways.

The Rams put on a fan fest before the show with food trucks and games, so even if you can’t tailgate, you get a little bit of that experience. The Los Angeles Coliseum is also a historic and iconic L.A. institution, and it’s really special that the Los Angeles Rams get to play at this stadium again.
