Los Angeles has a lot of amazing sports teams, including our hockey team, the Kings. The Los Angeles Kings play at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles which is great venue. There are lots of options for parking, but they’re pretty much all paid lots, so be prepared to spend an extra $20-$40 on parking.
I went to my first professional hockey game earlier this season, and it was wild! There are 3 20-minute periods with 2 17-minute intermissions between the periods. At the beginning of each period there are flashing lights and music as the players skate onto the rink and it’s got way more of a party-vibe than any other professional sports game I’ve been to. The fans were also extra excitable, which was fun! Especially the fans who were right be the rink; they were banging on the barriers and yelling at the players on the ice. There was also significantly more physical fighting between the players than I’m used to which was a little wild at first, but quickly became a fun part of the game.
I got tickets behind one of the goals which was exciting because you got to be close to the action and the players were coming right at you whenever they were trying to score!
Make sure to dress in warm clothes, regardless of the weather outside because the Staples Center is cold with a huge ice rink in the middle of it!
The Los Angeles Kings were started in Los Angeles in 1967 and are celebrating their 50th season this year! The Kings have had a fairly tumultuous year so far, winning some great games, but also going through some losing streaks. Win or lose a Kings game at Staples Center is always a fun time and I can’t wait for my next one!

Back in the days when the kings were still in Gold & purple and playing at the fabulous fOrum, And wayne gretsky was still in edmonton, i’d go with my friends. We’d buy student tickets (less thAn $10!) — often no one was there so we’d move down to the ice after the first period… fun times!
