In Los Angeles, tacos are serious business. Angelinos are proud of their reputation for having the best Mexican food outside of Mexico, and Guisados is another shining example of that.
I’ve only ever been to the Guisados just north of DTLA, by Dodger Stadium. There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant, but I always park on the street. You order at the counter in the front of the restaurant and then you find a seat. The employees will bring your food to you. I opted to sit in the nice outdoor patio area in the back.
Opened in Boyle Heights in 2010, Guisados has been serving up authentic, homestyle braises on homemade tortillas. Since 2010, their popularity has only grown, making it so they could open restaurants in Echo Park, DTLA, West Hollywood, and Burbank. The menu at Guisados isn’t fussy, and their commitment to authenticity and excellence is what keeps people coming back for more.
The last time I went, I got a chorizo taco, a mole taco, and a fish taco and a melon agua fresca. Everything was so good! The melon agua fresca was a nice way to cool off after eating the tacos, but the tacos were the real stars of the show. The mole was rich and flavorful, the fish was well cooked and crisp, and the chorizo was delicious and just a little bit spicy. In all of the tacos, the meat was generously packed into the tortillas, causing a little bit of a messy situation once you started to eat, but it was completely worth it! And not to mention the corn tortillas themselves, which were thick and chewy, just how I like them!
I’m already counting down the days until I can go back to Guisados for more tacos!
