Little Damage has been making a name for itself with its wild ice cream colors and black waffle cones made with activated charcoal. Situated in the heart of downtown L.A., Little Damage is most famous for its black soft serve ice cream. They recently changed their black ice cream from “Dark Cinns” (horchata flavored) to “Mother of Dragons” (strawberry-cheesecake flavored), and are constantly updating their flavor menu, though the fun colors stay the same. They also have a flavor called “Unicorn Tears” which is bright blue and tastes like birthday cake, a green colored “Avocado Dreams” (vegan), and a lilac color called “Salted Covfefe,” which tastes like salted cookies. They have also had pink flavors in the past.
But their ice cream isn’t special just for the color, Little Damage prepares their ice cream in small batches every day using local ingredients supplied by organic farmers, and even offer a vegan option!
Because Little Damage is in Downtown Los Angeles, parking is difficult. I ended up parking in a fairly expensive lot right by the shop because I couldn’t find street parking nearby (and I was in a rush). However, if you have more time, I would recommend looking for street parking (even if it’s a little farther away) and then walking to the shop.
Generally speaking, Little Damage is very Instagram-able. The ice cream colors are vibrant and the little shop has plaid walls and neon signs and cute street art right outside its doors. There is even a free photo booth inside!
When I went to Little Damage they were, unfortunately, out of their black ice cream, so I decided on “Unicorn Tears,” the bright blue flavor. You also have the option of a topping on your ice cream which include fruity pebble ice cream, shaved coconut and Oreo’s, but I went with rainbow sprinkles. I enjoyed the black cones made with activated charcoal. It was a little less sweet than your average waffle cone and it was also crunchier, but still tasted very good. The texture of the ice cream was also really nice. I always enjoy the smoothness of soft serve ice cream, and that is what Little Damage uses. I will say, the ice cream was a little too sweet for me. I know that birthday cake is a very sweet flavor to begin with, but Little Damage’s flavor was sweeter than I am used to. The less-sweet cone helped to balance out the overly sweet ice cream a little, but not entirely. I would still be interested to try some of their other flavors, especially the black ice cream. I’m bummed that I missed out on “Dark Cinns” because I really like horchata, but I’m excited to see what fun, new flavors they come up with!
