Jeni’s is a small chain of ice cream shops with stores all over the U.S. Luckily for us, four of them are in the Los Angeles area. I went to their newest location in the Calabasas Commons.
Jeni’s doesn’t use any synthetic flavoring, dyes, or colors. They partner with local growers and buy directly from the source to ensure the highest quality flavors in all their ice creams. Every component of the ice cream is important to Jeni’s. From texture, to flavor, to finish, Jeni’s values the entire ice cream experience. Jeni’s also offers fun and interesting flavors along with the classic chocolate and vanilla.
When I went, I had half a scoop of Savannah Buttermint and half a scoop of Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks. I also tried Wildberry Lavender and Salty Caramel. The Jeni’s staff is very generous with their sampling policy. All the flavors were amazing, but I think the Savannah Buttermint was my favorite. I’m a sucker for a good mint ice cream, and this one had a clear, non-toothpaste-y mint flavor and the richness of a buttermilk ice cream.
I love ice cream, but it sometimes leaves my teeth feeling gritty—not Jeni’s ice cream! The flavors were all really strong, but not overpowering, and I felt like I could eat an entire pint all by myself.
Jeni’s is some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had and I can’t wait to go back to try more flavors! Hard Cider Sorbet, Goat Cheese with Red Cherries, and Pistachio & Honey sound the most interesting to me. What flavors would you want to try?
