Most of you would probably be perfectly content to never step foot in L.A. City Hall. What reason could you possibly have to go to a government building? Well, I’ll tell you: because the top of City Hall has one of the best views in L.A.
When you enter city hall from Main St. you will have to walk through a small metal detector and show a form of ID to the officers at the security desk. Tell them you are going to the observation deck on the 27th floor. They have instructions at the security desk, but I’m going to give you some with a little more detail.
There is a large elevator lobby just behind the security desk (you can’t miss it). The closest 4 of elevators only go to the first 10 floors. You are going to want to go to the far set of elevators, which go all the way to the 22nd floor.
Once you get to the 22nd floor, you are going to need to exit the elevator and take the next set of elevators up to the 26th floor. Everything is well labeled, so it’s really not as confusing as it sounds.
Exit your elevator onto the 26th floor and you will see a large double staircase up to the 27th floor, the observation deck. You will be in a small circular room with large windows, but the best view is through the doors, out on the balcony. Once on the balcony you will have a 360-degree view of the City of Los Angeles.
In each direction there is a little sign telling you what you are looking at, including Dodger Stadium, the Hollywood Sign, Disney Concert Hall, and the Catalina Island.
Also, if you go on a Thursday, there is a fairly large farmers market right across Main St. with loads of fun lunch choices and local goodies.
