Located near Pasadena, Huntington Gardens encompasses roughly 120 acres of gardens and galleries. It’s also been used as a set in many Hollywood movies and television shows, including the Good Place and the Wedding Planner. Exploring the grounds is a lovely way to spend an afternoon, especially if you’re able to take advantage of some of that unparalleled California sunshine. With it’s variety of gardens and architecture, Huntington Gardens also offers the opportunity for a variety of different photo ops.
I started by entering through the West Entrance and working in a roughly counter clockwise loop. One of the first things to visit was the Greenhouse, which is home to a variety of beautiful, tropical plants. While in Huntington Gardens, I also enjoyed the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Shakespeare and the Camellia Garden.
I also spent some time in the Thornton Portrait Gallery, which was a nice respite from the afternoon sun. My favorite room was the library, but there was a variety of art on display.
I had lunch at the 1919 Cafe, which is set up in a cafeteria-style. It was really yummy! Border Grill has a stand, so of course I had to eat there. Founded by chef Susan Finnegan, one of the Two Hot Tamales, Border Grill always has great Mexican food. If you’re looking for something a little fancier, you can make a reservation at the Rose Garden Tea House.
I had a great time spending a couple of hours exploring Huntington Gardens. And with over 120 acres of land, there’s still a lot left to explore on my next visit!
